An Abundance of the Land: The Gardener – French Riviera Gin

From Christian Dior and Brigitte Bardot to Grace Kelly and The Rolling Stones, the French Riviera is a place dreamers and artists have sought for centuries.

Date Published

Its citrus groves and honeysuckle hedges have called to Picasso; its gentle hills to Cézanne; its regal cypresses to Van Gogh; its fairytale forests to Matisse. Over many long afternoons and evenings spent sharing in the abundance of the land, the Famille Perrin and Brad Pitt birthed an idea.

An endeavor to create a mirror of the French Riviera – to bottle up its very essence so that the world, too, might experience its beauty. Within those moments of conviviality, they dreamed up a spirit that could convey the light, aromas and flavors of the land.

The Gardener Gin is an ideal representation of the South of France, and as such, so is the thoughtfully crafted glass bottle. The Gardener founders worked with Stranger & Stranger on the design and Stoelzle Glass Group on the execution of the bottles. We proudly share more of their story here in our periodical Spirits blog.

The Gardener launched at the world-famous Cannes Film Festival in May 2023, Senior Brand Manager Pierre Lefebvre shares more on the journey to get there.

What drove the decision for your partnership with Stoelzle, apart from the recommendation by Stranger and Stranger?

Much like the friendship between the Family Perrin and Brad Pitt, which resulted in The Gardener Gin, Stoelzle Glass Group has the reputation for solid partnerships with spirits brands and as a result for producing bespoke bottles.

As we had such a thoughtful and curated approach to the Gin, we also wanted to work with someone who is as flexible as Stoelzle in accommodating our vision for the bottle. The development timeline also worked well in our favor.

How did the blue spray decoration on the bottle come to life?

The color palette of the bottle falls between a combination of green and blue. This unique color represents the azure waves of the French Riviera, as well as the shift in color similar to the sky and the sea. The spray decoration was the best technique to achieve this incredible rendering.

What is important for us to know about the label? The closure for the bottle?

The label is engraved with a watchful sun and sealed with the triptych of sky (Brad Pitt), land (Famille Perrin), and fire (Tom Nichol), the vessel brings the symbol of life together with the elemental natures of The Gardener’s creators.

Enclosed with natural wood and signed by the Famille Perrin, Brad and Tom, it is a keepsake in its own right. The Gardener is as beautiful as it is delicious.

What is next for The Gardener Gin?

We celebrated the launch of The Gardener Gin in May, officially presented at the Carlton during the 2023 Cannes Film Festival. We even coincided with the reopening of the famous French Riviera hotel by launching the iconic “Secret Garden” cocktail. This was created by the hotel’s bartenders in collaboration with the gin legend, Tom Nichol, one of the world’s pre-eminent Master Distillers.

Next, The Gardener Gin will pre-launch in the United States from September in select states prior to a wider national distribution.

Stoelzle Glass Group proudly worked on these one of a kind bottles, which are currently available within Europe. To learn more about The Gardener Gin, visit their website.
